KwaZulu-Natal police say they cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests in connection with the murder of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) secretary-general, Sindiso Magaqa.
Former Umzimkhulu municipal manager, Zweliphansi Skhosana was arrested in connection with Magaqa’s murder in 2017.
Skhosana was arrested in Durban and appeared in the Umzimkhulu Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He was arrested in 2018 alongside the Umzimkhulu mayor Mluleki Ndobe, who has since died, a businessman, two former police officers and a hitman.
However, the charges were later provisionally withdrawn.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the Political Killings Task Team is hard at work.
“The investigation will determine that and what happens in court will also determine that. But, what we have for now – we believe that we are mostly towards the end and the man in custody could be the mastermind or somebody who would have ordered the hit. Hence the charge of conspiracy to commit murder and the charge of murder. We cannot rule out any possibility of more arrests, because when we made this arrest, we still expected to investigate further and those investigations might lead us to another direction,” explains Netshiunda.
