President of People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping marks 73rd birthday

President of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping is receiving birthday congratulations on 15 June.

Xi Jinping was born in Fuping County in Shaanxi Province in central China. In 1975, he enrolled at Tsinghua University, joining the Faculty of Chemical Engineering. After graduating in 1979, he was appointed as a secretary at the General Office of the State Council of the PRC.

From 1982, the future Chinese leader spent three years in Zhengding County, more than 17 years in Fujian Province, and nearly five years in Zhejiang Province, holding various administrative positions, including governor and vice mayor roles.

In 2007, he became Head of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Municipal Committee in Shanghai. While working, he defended his doctoral dissertation in law at the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Tsinghua University in 2002. This was reported by the
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

In 2012, when Xi Jinping assumed the top position in the Party, he stated that he and his colleagues would lead the CPC on a path of national rejuvenation and work towards a better life for the people, the
agency noted.

In 2013, he became President of the PRC and was re-elected for five-year terms twice, in 2018 and 2023.

Over the past 14 years, China under Xi Jinping’s leadership has witnessed a series of historic transformations, including economic growth, advances in science and technology, and the establishment of interstate groupings with countries around the world. China became one of the founding members of BRICS and will assume the chairmanship of the group in 2027.

The Chinese leader has received birthday congratulations from the leaders of several states. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a congratulatory telegram published on the Kremlin’s
official website, noted Xi Jinping’s high authority both among his compatriots and abroad.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a congratulatory telegram to the Chinese President, in which he highlighted Xi Jinping’s personal contribution to strengthening the “eternal comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China, based on unbreakable bonds of friendship, good-neighbourliness and mutual support”.

According to the
official website of the President of Kazakhstan, Tokayev expressed confidence that during the current “golden thirty-year period” of Kazakhstan–China relations, bilateral cooperation will continue to strengthen, maintaining strong momentum and expanding into new areas of collaboration. The President of Kazakhstan wished Xi Jinping continued success in his state activities and the people of China well-being and prosperity.
