Project to abolish university tuition fees flourishes in India
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting at the Chief Minister’s office to discuss the implementation of the Pragyan Bharti scheme. This is reported by
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
The scheme provides for waiver of fee for free admission to higher education courses in Assam for students whose parental income is less than Rs 2 lakh per annum. Eligible students can apply for fee waiver through the portal, the central platform for admission to undergraduate courses in the state.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma analysed the number of applicants eligible for fee waiver for the upcoming academic session. A total of 57,469 applicants have been found eligible and more are expected as the second list of applicants will be released soon.
To ensure timely reimbursement of tuition fees of the institutions covered under the scheme, Chief Minister Sarma directed senior officials to make the necessary payments by 10 July 2024.
