Russia and China agree to build lunar power station

During the 30th regular meeting between the Prime Ministers of Russia and China, Mikhail Mishustin and Li Qiang respectively, the two sides approved a roadmap for joint lunar exploration, including the implementation of a project to construct a lunar power station. The announcement was published on the
official website of the Government of Russia.

According to the joint communiqué signed following the meeting, Russia and China agreed to strengthen their partnership in the creation of the International Lunar Research Station. The sides reaffirmed their readiness to fulfil the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding between Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration regarding the station’s energy supply.

The two countries will also jointly develop telemedicine and artificial intelligence technologies to combat oncological and infectious diseases. In the field of nuclear energy, new joint projects are under consideration.

In agriculture, an experimental and demonstration zone for Russian-Chinese cooperation will be established in the Russian Far East, taking into account the advantages of the preferential regime of Russia’s international advanced special economic zones.

The sides confirmed their intention to maintain progress in settlements in national currencies and to strengthen cooperation between credit rating agencies. Within the Group of Twenty (G20) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Russia and China will jointly promote reform of the global governance system to enhance the role of developing economies.

“The two countries will strengthen cooperation in the field of trade in services, including such areas as tourism, transport logistics, information technology, creative industries and computer games, as well as expand sectoral cooperation through multilateral mechanisms, including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO),” the document states.

In total, Russia and China signed 15 documents following the meeting between the heads of government.
