Russia and South Africa strengthen cultural ties through art and cinema
The Russian Embassy in South Africa held a large-scale event dedicated to strengthening cultural ties between the two countries, as well as with the BRICS countries and the Global South. The evening’s programme included the opening of an international photo exhibition and the screening of a feature film based on Russian folk tales. This is reported by
African Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
The highlight of the programme was the 10th Andrey Stenin International Press Photo Contest Exhibition, which presented works by photographers from Russia, South Africa, China, India, and other countries.
“South Africa holds the record for the number of the contest roadshow exhibitions outside Russia,” Russia’s Ambassador to South Africa Roman Ambarov said.
The cultural evening continued with a screening of the film The Flying Ship (2024), a feature film based on the 1979 Soviet cartoon. The audience, which included representatives of the government, academia and the media, praised the aesthetics of Russian folk tales and folklore that formed the basis of the film.
At the end of the event, Ambassador Ambarov awarded the winners of an online quiz timed to coincide with the Russian Diplomat’s Day.
It is worth noting that earlier this month Russia and South Africa agreed on a language exchange programme aimed at promoting the Russian language in South Africa and indigenous African languages in Russia.
