Russia and UAE to develop joint environmental protection plan



The countries will focus on biodiversity conservation, waste management, hydrometeorology, and forestry

Russia and the United Arab Emirates at the meeting of the Russian-Emirati working group agreed to develop a roadmap for cooperation in the environmental sphere. This is reported by the official
website of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that the meeting was devoted to the implementation of the memorandum of understanding between the relevant departments of the two countries. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dmitry Tetenkin, the Emirati delegation by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Mohammed Saeed Sultan Al Nuaimi.

According to the report, the parties discussed biodiversity conservation, waste management, hydrometeorology and forestry. Special attention was paid to cooperation in the field of study and restoration of populations of endangered falcon and bustard bird species. It is expected to involve profile zoological institutions of both countries.

Tetenkin also invited the UAE to take part in the international forum on the conservation of birds of prey, which will be held on 3 September in Vladivostok.

In addition, the Russian side stressed that the UAE’s joining BRICS is of great importance, and thanked the Emirati partners for their participation in preparing the environmental part of the declaration adopted at the association’s summit in 2024.
