Agricultural trade between Russia and India increased by more than 60 per cent in 2024, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev during his working visit to India. This is reported by the
official website of the Russian Government.
In New Delhi, Patrushev held talks with key ministers, focusing on strengthening bilateral trade and advancing long-term cooperation. At a meeting with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, discussions centred on expanding access for Russian meat and dairy products to the Indian market, cooperation in the fisheries sector, and accelerating the conclusion of a free trade agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Talks with India’s Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers Jagat Prakash Nadda addressed prospects for deeper collaboration in the supply of mineral fertilisers, while a separate meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted opportunities to increase volumes and diversify the range of agricultural products traded. Russia underscored its interest in boosting exports of vegetable oils, pulses, and other foodstuffs.
Patrushev stressed that the growth of bilateral trade reflects the resilience of agricultural cooperation and underlined Russia’s readiness to expand strategic partnership with India. He also noted the significant potential for scientific and technical collaboration, particularly in the field of crop breeding.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of direct contacts between research institutions and the organisation of specialist exchanges and training programmes.
