Russia proposes SCO to organise working group on fair energy transition
Russian Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov proposed to create a working group on climate neutrality and green economy with the participation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) countries. This is reported by the official
website of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development.
According to him, Russia has been consistently implementing its environmental strategy: “Over the past five years, the country has created a carbon regulation infrastructure from scratch, developed a voluntary market of carbon units, and launched green finance projects.”
He added that Sakhalin is experimenting with achieving carbon neutrality by the end of 2025.
“We value common approaches with the SCO countries and believe that the organisation can play a key role in ensuring a fair energy transition and forming universal models of climate neutrality,” Reshetnikov stressed.
Earlier, Russia has presented the SCO countries the best practices of investor support and proposed to unite approaches to sustainable financing – how to assess environmental, social, managerial, and non-financial risks.
