The UAE officially joined the association in 2024
Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with Chairman of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Saqr Ghobash in St. Petersburg. This is reported by the official
website of the upper house of the Russian parliament.
During the conversation, she proposed to intensify inter-parliamentary cooperation in the context of the enlarged BRICS, noting that the UAE’s accession to the association has opened new opportunities. “The parliamentary dimension of this association is developing. Parliamentarians can contribute to its development,” Matvienko emphasised.
The sides noted that Russian-Emirati relations are developing thanks to the close dialogue between state leaders, governments, parliaments, and business circles. They discussed issues of deepening economic cooperation, including in the context of preparing an agreement on economic partnership between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the UAE, as well as the development of humanitarian and educational ties.
In addition, Valentina Matvienko praised Saqr Ghobash’s personal contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation. The UAE Parliament Speaker thanked the Russian side for its support in the process of joining BRICS and invited Matvienko to pay an official visit to the Emirates.
