Russian President Vladimir Putin celebrates his 74th birthday on 7 October 2026.

Vladimir Putin was born on 7 October 1952 in Leningrad. In 1975, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University. From 31 December 1999, he served as Acting President of Russia, and on 26 March 2000, he was elected head of state for the first time. Putin was subsequently elected president in 2004, 2012, 2018 and 2024.

During his years as president, Russia has hosted major international events, including the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, while also expanding cooperation within multilateral organisations, including BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

In 2026, Vladimir Putin took part in the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the SCO Summit in Bishkek and the Russia–ASEAN Summit in Kazan. The international agenda focused on the development of multilateral cooperation, energy, technology, trade and economic ties, and interaction with countries of the Global South and East.

Particular attention throughout the year was also paid to Russia–China cooperation. In particular, Russia expressed its readiness to introduce a permanent visa-free regime with China.

On his birthday, the president traditionally receives congratulations from Russian government and public figures, as well as foreign leaders.
