Sergey Lavrov about BRICS Chairmanship: We aim to achieve substantial results

Key areas of work for this year: politics and security, economy and finance, cultural and humanitarian contacts

Under the Russian Chairmanship, the BRICS grouping of countries is planning active work in three key areas – politics and security, economy and finance, cultural and humanitarian contacts. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting of the Commission of the General Council of the United Russia Party on international cooperation and support for compatriots abroad.

Taking into account the accession of five new members at the beginning of this year, the main priority is the successful integration of the new participants into the general architecture of strategic partnership, while maintaining the effectiveness of all existing mechanisms.

“Plans are underway for the International Inter-Party Forum in the BRICS-plus/outreach format to be held at the initiative of the United Russia political party in June-July in Vladivostok. We welcome the plans to hold it in an expanded format with the participation of our partners from the CIS. It is important to use this factor to further strengthen ties with the countries of the World Majority”
