South Africa develops new online platforms to boost local business

The initiative is designed to simplify the process of connecting buyers with local supplier

The Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition of South Africa is launching two new online platforms aimed at enhancing access to locally produced goods and services, according to
Independent Online (IOL).

The platforms, which will officially go live in July 2025, consist of a consumer-oriented store and a business-to-business portal. The initiative is designed to support small and medium enterprises, promote local sourcing, and simplify the process of connecting buyers with local suppliers.

The primary focus of these platforms is to boost the visibility and sales of locally manufactured goods and services. By creating a seamless online space for both consumers and businesses, the project seeks to promote South Africa’s homegrown products and services, which in turn will contribute to job creation and economic growth.

According to the report, the platforms will host over 1,700 locally made products from various sectors, offering a wide range of choices for both individual consumers and businesses seeking to meet procurement needs.
