South Africa to discuss the creation of a forum on disability issues within the BRICS framework
The meeting will take place on 7 December
South Africa’s Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD) will hold an online meeting on Thursday with experts on the establishment of a BRICS Disability Forum.
The forum aims to include people with disabilities in the priority area of engagement and to promote programmes and activities within BRICS. This is reported on the
official website of the South African government.
The Forum will provide a platform for sharing best practices and research in the field of disability and will also contribute to addressing important issues related to the protection of the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities, especially women and young people in the BRICS member countries.
The BRICS Disability Forum will contribute to the realisation of the goals enshrined in international instruments on the rights of persons with disabilities, such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the UN 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
As a reminder, South Africa’s BRICS Chairmanship will end on 31 December 2023.
