Students participating in Brazilian Pe-de-Meia programme to receive first instalment of a financial incentive scholarship

The programme is open to students between 14 and 24 years of age

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Minister of Education Camilo Santana announced the first financial scholarship under the Pe-de-Meia programme at a ceremony at the Planalto Palace.

The Pe-de-Meia programme, supported by the federal Government, is designed to help low-income students. Students between the ages of 14 and 24 whose families are registered in the Unified Registry are eligible.

The total amount to be received by participants in the programme is R$1,800 (US$362). For the time being, they will be paid R$200 (US$40) each for registering for the initiative and this amount will not be deducted from the full stipend payment. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

The event was addressed by representatives of students from different regions who received their cards to access the first instalment of the financial scholarship.

The disbursement schedule will correspond to the students’ date of birth. Teachers, parliamentarians and government officials were also present at the ceremony. The incentives provided through the Pe-de-Meia programme are designed to support students and promote their learning and success in school.
