Participants discussed methods of promoting the Russian language in the Commonwealth of Independent states

The conference “Russian Language as a Basis for Integration Dialogue in the CIS Region” concluded in St. Petersburg, where the experience of the TV BRICS Media Network in promoting the Russian language and culture was presented.

The conference summarised the results of the work of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2023, declared by the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State as the Year of the Russian Language as a Language of Interethnic Communication.

During the round table “Russian Language in the Media and Internet Space” organised with the support of the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language, the experience of the international media network TV BRICS in promoting the Russian language in the media space of the BRICS+ Commonwealth was presented.

Tamara Skok, Director of the Department of Innovative Linguistic Projects at TV BRICS, spoke about the multifaceted activities carried out by the international media network to popularise the Russian language and literature and strengthen cultural ties between the peoples of Russia and the near and far abroad. The “Modern Russian” portal containing topical materials on philology, including methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language, international educational teleconferences with universities of BRICS countries, unique audiovisual content of TV BRICS – all this can serve as a support for the organisation of more productive work of Russians from near and far abroad, who are experiencing many difficulties in their work today.

In her report, Tamara Skok urged the representatives of the professional community to co-operate with the TV BRICS Media Network and the international project “Modern Russian”, in particular, to exchange content, to post topical publications by experts in the field of teaching Russian as a foreign language, to integrate educational media resources, and to unite Russians from different countries.

This idea was reflected in the final resolution of the conference: “Promotion of the Russian language should be systematic and systematic, which implies coordination of efforts of different participants of this process. An important direction should be recognised as the development of infrastructure to promote and support the use of the Russian language in media space, especially in its Internet segment, which provides almost limitless opportunities for international and interethnic cooperation and communication”.
