The economy of China’s southern islands grew by 9.2%

Bookings for travel to Hainan for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday have surged 392 per cent

Hainan recorded a 49.9 per cent increase in holiday arrivals and a 71.9 per cent rise in tourism revenue.

According to Governor Liu Xiaoming, the province forecasts gross domestic product growth of about eight per cent by 2024.

The island is part of China’s plan to transform the region into an influential tourist destination by 2035. This is reported by

Bookings for travel to Hainan for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday (from 10 February) have risen 392 per cent year-on-year.

Since the island introduced visa-free entry for foreign travellers in 2018, there have been more than 870,000 arrivals from other countries.

The list of visa-free countries includes 40 European countries, including Russia, the UK, France and Germany, and 11 Asian countries, including South Korea, Japan and Singapore.
