The first off-grid charging station for electric vehicles will be opened in South Africa

By June, residents will be able to utilise the country’s first renewable energy station

By June 2024, residents of South African north-west region will be able to top up their batteries at a self-service station.

Experts have confirmed that the work should be completed within the pre-agreed timeframe: “Specialised charging equipment has been procured and we are to finish by June 2024”.

The charging stations generate electricity on site using solar photovoltaic panels and store it in lithium-iron-phosphate batteries. Generators fuelled by hydrotreated vegetable oil are used as a backup power source.

Motorists can take advantage of a fast charging service. There are currently 720 DC ultra-fast charging points in operation. This is reported by
Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.

Thus, the charge will be carried out in just 20 minutes.
