The South Africa-Cuba High Level Panel on Water and Sanitation will meet in Pretoria

It will be chaired by South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo

South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, David Mahlobo, will chair the 7th meeting of the South Africa-Cuba High Level Panel as part of efforts to strengthen the long-standing co-operation on water and sanitation between the two nations.

The meeting, which will be co-chaired by Mahlobo and Bladimir Matos Moya, Vice President of Cuba’s National Hydraulic Resources Institute, will take place on Wednesday, 29 November in Pretoria. This is reported by
the official website of the South African government.

The 7th meeting of the South Africa-Cuba High Level Group will review the existing co-operation agreement between the two states in the field of geohydrology and engineering services, especially in supporting rural and other disadvantaged areas where such services are inadequate. It is expected that a new agreement will be signed between the two States, which will be effective from 2025 to 2030.

In February 2020, South Africa and Cuba signed an agreement that sent 25 engineers from Cuba to South Africa to help maintain and operate infrastructure across the water value chain, with most of them seconded to water/river clusters and municipalities for training. They are helping to build the human resource capacity of South African candidate engineers and skilled labourers in all designated municipalities.
