The strongest earthquake in Brazil’s history occured in the state of Acre
The 6.6 magnitude tremor occurred in the municipality of Tarauaca
The municipality of Tarauaca in the state of Acre recorded the strongest earthquake in Brazilian history. The strength of the earthquake was 6.6 on the Richter scale.
No damage has been reported so far. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 614.5 kilometres, allowing the energy to dissipate. According to geologists, shocks at such a depth are practically not felt by the population.
On 7 June 2022 in Tarauaca, north-west of Acre, was recorded earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5, the second strongest in the history of the country. There were no casualties or property damage.
The tremors come as the region is located near the Andes Mountains, one of the most seismically active areas on the planet. This is reported by
