Abu Dhabi has strengthened its leadership position in the field of organ transplantation. Doctors have performed a total of 1,090 successful operations since the launch of the National Programme for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue in 2017, according to
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
In 2024, 290 transplants were performed, including heart, lung and pancreas transplants. The country also performed multiple organ transplants, as well as liver and kidney transplants in children and infants as young as five months old.
According to the agency, doctors used robotic systems during complex operations, which contributed to a more accurate procedure. Abu Dhabi Undersecretary of the Department of Health Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi noted that the country’s successes are the result of high-quality medicine, the use of modern equipment and innovative treatment approaches.
Along with the UAE, medical technology is also actively developing in Iran. According to TV BRICS partner
Mehr News Agency, the country has launched the production of nanomedicines for the treatment of cancer and leukaemia. This makes therapy cheaper and more accessible through the health insurance system. Iran has also become one of the leading manufacturers of heart valves made from human tissue. The technology reduces waiting times for operations and lowers the cost of importing medical devices.
