UAE leads Middle East EV sales for second consecutive year as green mobility accelerates

The United Arab Emirates has retained its position as the leading market for electric vehicle sales in the Middle East for the second year in a row, underscoring its rapid transition towards sustainable mobility and clean transport systems, reports
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook 2026, the UAE accounted for around 50 per cent of all electric vehicle sales across the region, reflecting strong consumer uptake and accelerated policy-driven transformation in the transport sector.

The achievement highlights the impact of the national electric vehicle policy introduced in 2023, which aims to accelerate EV adoption, expand charging infrastructure nationwide and encourage investment in sustainable mobility solutions. The strategy forms part of a wider national vision to build an intelligent, low-emission transport ecosystem aligned with long-term climate and energy objectives.

Officials noted that the UAE’s leadership in regional EV sales demonstrates its ability to attract global electric mobility development and create a competitive market environment supported by advanced infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.

The country’s progress is closely linked to its broader energy transition agenda, including long-term strategies focused on carbon neutrality, improved energy efficiency and the development of smart transport systems. Authorities emphasise that the transport transformation is a key pillar of the UAE’s economic diversification and green growth strategy.

Ongoing efforts include the expansion of nationwide EV charging networks and increased cooperation between public sector entities to accelerate infrastructure deployment.

As the UAE continues to scale up investment in clean transport technologies, it is strengthening its position as a regional leader in sustainable mobility and a key contributor to the global shift towards low-carbon transportation systems.
