In the emirate of Al Fujairah, scientists conduct specialised applied research to protect marine ecosystems and the region’s biodiversity, Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
Marine research focuses on several areas, including a programme for the study of cetaceans, the rehabilitation of sea turtles, the restoration of coral reefs, and the monitoring of the marine environment.
Scientists and environmental protection specialists study and monitor biological, chemical, and physical data. These are necessary for building a knowledge base on the marine ecosystem of Fujairah and the Gulf of Oman, which will be useful not only at present but also in the future.
Accurate monitoring and the enhancement of scientific outcomes are supported by the use of marine research vessels and submarines, as well as advanced underwater devices and technologies.
Alongside the collection of information on marine flora and fauna, researchers carry out work to protect them from environmental threats and human activities, such as fishing and shipping.
