Vietnam and Mozambique deepen higher education cooperation with new agreement

Vietnam and Mozambique have formalised a new cooperation agreement in higher education, marking another step in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding practical interaction in education and vocational training.

Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a TV BRICS partner, reports that the document was signed in Maputo by Vietnam’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Tran Thi Thu Thin, and Mozambique’s Minister of Education and Culture, Samaria Tovela. The new accord develops the foundations laid by the 2007 agreement on education and culture and responds to the growing need for more structured and substantive collaboration.

Within the framework of the agreement, the two sides will advance cooperation in teaching, research, academic exchanges, staff development, student mobility, and related fields. A key provision provides for 15 scholarships to be awarded annually by each side, creating additional opportunities for students to study under exchange programmes.

Mozambique’s representatives emphasised that the updated cooperation mechanism aligns well with the practical priorities of both countries. The agreement is set to encourage concrete and effective joint projects, particularly training Mozambican students in Vietnam in key areas where Vietnam has established strengths, including agriculture, agroprocessing, aquaculture, medicine, engineering, science, and technology.

The Vietnamese side noted that education remains one of the most active pillars of bilateral relations, supported by the work of Vietnamese education specialists in Mozambique and long-running scholarship and exchange initiatives. The agreement is expected to bring tangible advantages to students and institutions in both countries, contribute to the preparation of highly qualified professionals for Mozambique’s priority sectors, and further elevate Vietnam–Mozambique relations.
