Vietnam registers at least 11 deaths and severe damage from Typhoon Bualoi

Typhoon Bualoi, known as Storm No. 10 in Vietnam, has caused at least 11 deaths, 13 missing persons, and 33 injuries in the northern and central regions of the country, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

According to the
Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS, Ninh Binh province was one of the hardest hit, where a tornado triggered by the storm left 9 dead and 18 injured in that area alone. Local authorities reported the collapse of 11 houses, damage to another 126, and impacts on schools, health centres and power networks.

The electricity infrastructure has been one of the most affected sectors. In Ha Tinh Province, a widespread blackout affected almost 500,000 households, while in Quang Tri work is under way to restore service to 90 per cent of users.

Although the typhoon weakened upon reaching Laos, the authorities warn that persistent rainfall continues to generate the risk of flash floods and landslides.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and ordered the acceleration of rescue and recovery efforts.
