Vietnam sends 185-strong delegation to 13th ASEAN Para Games

Vietnam has officially dispatched a 185-member delegation, including 141 athletes, to compete at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, scheduled for January 15–27, 2026. This is reported

The send-off ceremony, led by Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, highlighted the Vietnamese government’s commitment to developing para sports and supporting athletes on the regional stage.

The Games will bring together participants from 11 Southeast Asian nations, featuring 19 sports and 536 medal events, emphasising both athletic excellence and the humanitarian principles of inclusion and resilience.

Vietnamese athletes will compete across 11 disciplines, including athletics, swimming, powerlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, boccia, archery, tennis, and fencing. Officials have set ambitious targets, aiming for 40 to 50 gold medals and a top-four or top-five overall ranking.

Addressing the delegation, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh underscored the political and social importance of supporting persons with disabilities. “The achievements of Vietnam’s para sports are a testament to the Vietnamese spirit – talent and intellect, with the courage to dream and the determination to conquer and win,” he said, urging athletes to compete with integrity, solidarity, and sportsmanship.

Powerlifting world champion and Paralympic medallist Le Van Cong, representing the athletes, affirmed the team’s determination to compete confidently and fairly, aiming to bring honour to the nation.

With thorough preparation and strong backing, Vietnam enters ASEAN Para Games 13 determined not only to achieve sporting success but also to promote resilience, inclusion, and the spirit of aspiration, laying foundations for future competitions such as the Asian Para Games and the 2028 Paralympic Games.
