Vietnam’s pepper exports approach US$800 million as global demand drives strong growth

Vietnam’s pepper industry delivered a strong performance during the first five months of 2026, generating US$789.2 million in export revenue from 122,600 tonnes of shipments, as reported by
VNA, a TV BRICS partner.

According to industry data, export volumes increased by 21.7 per cent year-on-year, while export earnings rose by 13.9 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. Monthly shipments reached 25,180 tonnes, generating US$166.2 million in revenue and contributing to one of the strongest five-month export performances in recent years.

Asia continued to be the largest regional consumer, absorbing 46 per cent of Vietnam’s total pepper exports. Demand across the region remained dynamic, with several markets significantly increasing purchases during the first five months of the year. The Middle East also maintained steady import demand.

At the same time, Vietnam strengthened its supply chain through increased imports of raw pepper, which rose sharply during the five-month period. The growth in imports is expected to support domestic processing activities and ensure stable supplies for export-orientated production.

Beyond pepper, the country’s cinnamon sector also recorded positive results. Exports reached 48,686 tonnes, generating US$124.3 million in revenue.

Industry observers note that the combination of strong export performance, diversified markets and growing global demand for spices positions Vietnam favourably for continued expansion throughout 2026. The sector’s ability to serve multiple regions while maintaining consistent supply has further strengthened its competitiveness in international agricultural trade.

With export revenues approaching the US$800 million mark in just five months, Vietnam’s spice industry continues to emerge as an important contributor to national export growth and global food supply chains.
