Western Cape demonstrates lowest unemployment rate in South Africa

The number of people in employment has reached 82 000 per annum

According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) data released by Statistics South Africa, the Western Cape retains the lowest unemployment rate in South Africa at 21.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2024.

In addition to this, the province was able to create 82 000 jobs over the last year, between the first quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. This is reported by the official
website of the South African Government.

“While there is much more work to be done to get many more residents into jobs, we are making progress. This is evident by the fact that there are 82 000, or 3.1 per cent, more people in jobs in the Western Cape than there were a year ago,” said current Premier of the Western Cape Alan Richard Winde.

Premier Winde said work is being done across all sectors of the Western Cape economy to continue to allow the private sector to create more jobs.

The construction, finance and private domestic work sectors are experiencing the greatest growth.
