Youth from BRICS countries propose action plan for energy cooperation

The document is centred around four key areas

The VII BRICS Youth Energy Summit took place in Brasília, where delegates discussed the main directions for a just energy transition and collaboration between countries of the Global South in this field. This was reported on the official
website of Brazil’s BRICS presidency.

At the meeting, a draft BRICS Action Plan on Energy Cooperation was presented, which will be reviewed with consideration of the integration of new member countries into the group. The document is structured around four main thematic areas, reflecting the priorities of Brazil’s BRICS presidency:

  • Use of sustainable fuels as a measure to adapt to climate change;

  • Financing mechanisms for the energy transition and access to mineral resources for clean energy;

  • Expanding access to energy to overcome energy poverty;

  • Development of technologies to build low-carbon energy systems.

The final youth proposals will be incorporated into the BRICS Energy Outlook 2025, which will be presented at the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in Belém, Brazil.
