Zimbabwe accelerates nationwide rollout of Smart Traffic Management System
The system is also designed to support broader public security goals
Zimbabwe is set to expand the nationwide deployment of its Smart Traffic Management System, a locally developed solution aimed at reducing road traffic violations, improving urban mobility, and enhancing public safety through advanced surveillance and artificial intelligence. This is reported by
The Herald, a partner of TV BRICS.
The system will detect a wide range of offences, including red-light violations, speeding, illegal parking, wrong-way driving, failure to wear seatbelts, improper lane changes, and disobedience of road signs.
Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere highlighted that beyond traffic enforcement, the system is also designed to support broader public security goals such as crowd control, detection of pickpocketing, and monitoring of suspicious behaviour.
Key technological features include facial recognition, signal optimisation, a predictive traffic flow platform, and automated fine enforcement.
