Zimbabwe launches tax education drive to boost compliance

The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion implements a nationwide tax education programme designed to increase compliance and foster economic self-sufficiency.

The programme is designed to support the government’s broader efforts to strengthen tax collection, a crucial element in funding essential national development projects, as reported by
ZBC, a partner of TV BRICS.

The initiative seeks to address a key issue: the formalisation of SMEs. The tax education aims to clearly explain tax obligations to these businesses, demonstrating the benefits of compliance.

Participants expressed their belief that it will help them to better understand their role in contributing to the national revenue base while also supporting the growth of their businesses within the formal sector.

According to the source, cross-border traders are using the programme to appeal for revisions to customs duties.

The tax education programme forms part of a larger government strategy to improve tax compliance and to ensure that locally generated funds are effectively used to advance national development goals.
