Zimbabwe secures major blueberry export deal with China

Zimbabwe has secured a landmark agreement to export locally grown blueberries to China, following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent visit to Beijing. According to ZBC, a partner of TV BRICS, the deal marks a significant step in expanding Zimbabwe’s access to one of the world’s largest fruit markets.

The Horticultural Development Council welcomed the move, describing it as a breakthrough that could transform the country’s berry industry. Chief Executive Linda Neilsen said the challenge now was to scale up production, attract investment, and maintain stringent quality and phytosanitary standards.

Nielsen emphasised that, with the right support, Zimbabwean growers could establish themselves as reliable suppliers to China and strengthen the nation’s role in global value chains.

Zimbabwe’s horticultural sector, central to the government’s Recovery and Growth Plan, is targeting US$2 billion in revenues, with officials emphasising that access to new international markets will be key to driving both production and rural economic development.
