Zimbabwe’s dairy sector shows growth at the beginning of the year

The data was released by the Zimbabwe Dairy Farmers Association

Zimbabwe’s dairy sector recorded a 3 per cent increase in milk production to over 9,7 million litres in January. In the same period last year, the figure stood at 9,5 million litres.

The sector aims to exceed 120 million litres in 2025, up from 114 million litres the previous year, aiming to meet the national requirement of 130 million litres. This is reported by
ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.

The increased availability of locally produced dairy products has led to a reduction in imports, which is having a positive impact on Zimbabwe’s balance of payments.

Since 2018, the Zimbabwean government has been supporting the dairy sector through measures aimed at reducing costs, improving viability and easing customs duties on imports of strategic raw materials. The dairy industry is seen as a strategically important sector to sustain milk production chains.
