Zimbabwe’s mineral exports surge 27% in first half of 2025

Experts predict lithium prices and ferrochrome sales to rise in the second half of 2025

Zimbabwe exported 2.4 million tonnes of minerals in the first half of 2025, marking a 27 per cent increase over the same period in 2024. Sales revenue reached US$1.395 billion. This is reported by
The Herald, a partner of TV BRICS.

The mining sector continues to be a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s economy, contributing approximately 12 per cent of GDP and generating around 80 per cent of the nation’s export earnings. The country boasts substantial reserves of platinum group metals, gold, chromium, and diamonds.

Looking ahead, industry analysts anticipate a medium-term rebound in lithium prices during the second half of the year and urge domestic research institutions to accelerate the development of more efficient lithium-ion batteries. Likewise, ferrochrome sales are expected to climb in the third quarter of 2025, driven by the commissioning of new production capacity and a stabilising global market.
