Egypt launches national initiative to boost cotton industry and support small businesses

Egypt has launched a major initiative to strengthen its cotton industry by supporting small and medium-sized enterprises operating across the country’s textile and cotton production chain, as Cairo seeks to expand exports and reinforce the international reputation of Egyptian cotton products.

According to
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS, the new “Egyptian Cotton Festival” initiative was launched by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) in cooperation with Cairo Governorate and the Egyptian Marketing Studies Foundation. The programme is designed to improve production capacity, marketing efficiency and international market access for businesses working in cotton-related industries.

The initiative will support enterprises involved in textile manufacturing, spinning and weaving, cotton furnishings, dyeing, machinery production and raw material supply. Participating businesses will also gain access to financial and technical assistance programmes aimed at modernising operations and improving competitiveness.

The programme also aims to strengthen cooperation between large manufacturers and smaller enterprises to create more integrated production clusters and supply chains across the textile sector.

Officials said Cairo Governorate’s participation reflects broader national efforts to increase the contribution of small businesses to Egypt’s economy through expanded production, direct sales opportunities and export growth.

Analysts note that the programme comes as Egypt intensifies efforts to modernise its textile industry and position itself as a regional manufacturing and export hub. Experts believe the initiative could create new opportunities for export diversification, industrial innovation and deeper integration of small businesses into global textile supply chains.
