At least 224 people have died and more than 600 have been injured as a result of the earthquake that struck Colombia on the morning of 10 August 2026. The Colombian Geological Survey has described it as the strongest in the country in the last decade. This was reported by

The epicentre of the 7.4-magnitude earthquake was in the municipality of San Jose del Palmar in the department of Choco in western Colombia. Two aftershocks, measuring 2.8 and 4.8 on the Richter scale, were also recorded.
According to the Colombian authorities, the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 103 kilometres, making it the strongest in the last decade.
The earthquake was felt in regions across the country and in neighbouring states, including Panama and Ecuador.
In Colombia, more than 1,500 homes were damaged, and at least 37 were completely destroyed.
