India has become the world’s largest vaccine producer and one of the leading suppliers of vaccines to the global market, said Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh. His remarks were reported by

Speaking at a reception for members of the Board of Directors and the Investment Committee of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) in New Delhi, Singh noted that over the past decade India has significantly strengthened its epidemic preparedness system.
According to the minister, the country has developed a rapidly growing bioeconomy, robust infrastructure for vaccine development and a scientific ecosystem.
Over the past decade, India’s biotechnology sector has expanded significantly. In 2025, the country’s bioeconomy reached US$195.3 billion, increasing by 18 per cent year-on-year.
The most notable changes have taken place in the vaccine industry. India has gradually moved beyond the role of solely a producer of affordable vaccines and has developed full-cycle capabilities – from scientific research and innovative development to the creation of advanced biological medicines, clinical trials and mass production, the minister said.
India supplies vaccines to more than 100 countries worldwide. According to Singh, the country accounts for around 60 per cent of global vaccine production, while Indian manufacturers meet more than 65 per cent of the World Health Organisation’s vaccine requirements for routine immunisation, the report notes.
