International Film Festival to take place in Argentina

The
Oberá en Cortos International Film Festival will be held from 6 to 10 October 2026 in the Argentine city of Oberá. The event is traditionally dedicated to cultural identity, diversity and the development of regional filmmaking. In particular, this year’s screenings will cover 16 cities across four countries, involving 25 venues. TV BRICS acts as an international media partner of the festival.

The 23rd festival will be held under the motto “Believing, creating and watching cinema without borders”. Screenings are planned in Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and Cuba.

As part of the business programme, Anastasia Shishkalova, Head of the Latin America Cooperation Department at the TV BRICS International Cooperation Directorate, will address the participants via a video message. She will present the international media network’s experience in the international promotion of audiovisual content and interaction with media, film festivals, producers and international organisations from various countries. In addition, new opportunities for cooperation aimed at expanding the presence of regional cinema in the BRICS+ media space will be presented.

“This year, we will once again provide an opportunity for films made in our region to meet their audience. We will focus on how our films are distributed, find their audience, and how we are building a cinema community between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay,” noted Axel Monsu, General Coordinator of the festival.

In addition to screenings, the programme will include international and regional competitions for feature-length and short films, as well as lectures, workshops and masterclasses. In particular, educational events will take place at the Faculty of Arts of the National University of Misiones.

Cuba will be the guest country of the festival. The programme features a discussion on the work of Cuban director Tomas Gutierrez Alea. Among the guests of honour is actress Mirta Ibarra, who will present the film “Neurótica anónima”.

For the first time, a student marathon of joint audiovisual production will take place. Participants from educational institutions in north-eastern Argentina, southern Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay will create six short films in 72 hours. Their premiere will take place at the closing ceremony of the festival.

Oberá en Cortos has been held since 2004. The main venue is the city of Oberá in the province of Misiones. The main organiser is Productora de la Tierra, an association of television, film, photography and design professionals engaged in the production of documentary and feature films in north-eastern Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil.
