Tunisia, Egypt and South Africa are among the African countries with the highest scores in the 2026 Global Innovation Index. This is stated in the 19th edition of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) ranking, reports Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), a partner of TV BRICS.
Experts cited human capital and scientific research as one of Tunisia’s strengths.
Tunisia ranks first in the world for the number of graduates in science and engineering disciplines and 12th for the volume of scientific publications.
The country also performs well in attracting foreign investment in research and development of cutting-edge technologies.
The WIPO Global Innovation Index has been compiled since 2007. It takes into account around 80 indicators, including expenditure on research and development, trade in high-tech goods, employment of skilled professionals and the licensing of intellectual property.
