The Russian Government has approved the Bioeconomy Development Strategy through 2036 and, for the longer term, through 2050. The order was signed on 5 October, according to the website of the Russian Government.

The document provides for the development of domestic solutions based on biological resources and the accelerated introduction of scientific developments. Priority areas include medicine, environmental protection, agriculture, veterinary medicine, energy and housing and utilities.

The country plans to produce new materials, types of fuel, fertilisers and feed additives, as well as medicines and medical devices.

To achieve this, technology parks will be established, the network of testing facilities will be expanded, and modern computing systems and artificial intelligence technologies will be used. International cooperation is also envisaged.

Particular attention will be paid to training specialists, including scientists, bioengineers, industrial bioinformaticians, technologists and chemists.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade, together with the Kurchatov Institute and the Russian Academy of Sciences, will prepare an action plan for implementing the strategy within six months.
