Russia and UAE strengthen trade ties following entry into force of new economic agreements

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to the Kremlin website.

The main topic of the conversation was the further development of cooperation between the two countries. The leaders discussed various areas of joint work within the framework of the strategic partnership and reaffirmed their intention to strengthen ties in the interests of Russia and the UAE.

In 2026, the countries are marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Economic ties between Russia and the UAE continue to develop. In 2025, bilateral trade reached a record US$14 billion, increasing 1.5-fold compared with the previous year.

An important step was the entry into force on 6 October 2026 of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). It provides preferential trading conditions for more than 86 per cent of product lines, which account for around 96 per cent of trade turnover between the UAE and EAEU countries.

In addition, an agreement between Russia and the UAE on trade in services and investment entered into force in August 2026, aimed at expanding companies’ access to the markets of the two countries.
