Russia and ASEAN increase trade in agricultural products by 25% in 2025

A working meeting took place in Moscow between Maksim Markovich, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, and Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN. The parties discussed the development of mutual trade in agri-food products and the strengthening of educational and scientific-technical partnerships, as well as prospects for cooperation in the agricultural sector. This was reported on the ministry’s website.

Maksim Markovich noted that ASEAN represents one of the most effective multilateral frameworks for cooperation. The agri-industrial sector is a key area of cooperation between our country and the Association.

Last year, the value of trade in agri-industrial products between Russia and ASEAN member states increased by 25 per cent. In particular, there was an increase in the volume of domestic mineral fertiliser exports: by the end of 2025, this figure had risen by 45.2 per cent. The Deputy Minister added that mutual trade in agri-industrial products has significant potential for growth.

An important area of cooperation in the agri-food sector is the development of educational and scientific-technical partnerships. Work is continuing on the implementation of joint research projects, and progress has been made in molecular biology and the development of an interactive communication network for the exchange of technologies.

Representatives of Lomonosov Moscow State University, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and in collaboration with partners from ASEAN countries, have completed research as part of the initiative “Development of a model for a comprehensive approach to the introduction of innovative technologies in agriculture to enhance the development potential of remote regions in ASEAN countries and Russia”.

Earlier, the Secretary-General of ASEAN held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov.
