A major housing project is being launched in South Africa

Its cost is estimated at 1 billion rand

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the allocation of one billion rand for the construction of about four thousand houses in the municipalities of the Northern Cape province.

The project is expected to be completed within the next 12 to 18 months. Ramaphosa announced it in Kimberley on Thursday, 18 January. The Head of State said that it was the part of the Government’s plan to “eradicate informal settlements and uninhabitable structures”.

The President admitted that the funds were obtained from the Human Settlements Development Grant and through the line of credit from the National Treasury and the Development Bank of South Africa. This is reported by
the official website of South African Government.
