Brazil and China have increased the validity of visas between the countries to 10 years

The initiative will make travelling easier, promote business and tourism between the two countries

An agreement between the two countries on visas was signed in Brasilia on Friday, 19 January, as part of a visit to Brazil by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Once in force, the agreement will allow consular offices of both countries to issue visas with a validity of up to 10 years, double the current maximum visa issuance period. This initiative will make travelling easier, promote business and tourism between the countries.

In 2023, more than 37 thousand Chinese visited Brazil. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

In addition, Wang Yi met with the advisor to the President of Brazil, Celso Amorim. The interlocutors discussed strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Amorim said that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Brazil and China goes beyond bilateral relations and becomes an important factor in maintaining balance in the international arena.

For his part, Wang Yi said Brazil is the first developing country to establish a strategic partnership with China and the first major country in Latin America to upgrade bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

China is willing to use the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to further pair development strategies and build a China-Brazil community with a common destiny, Wang Yi said.

The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the UN, BRICS, China-Latin America cooperation, and with the sub-regional South American trade and economic association (MERCOSUR).
