ANC official emphasises prioritisation of economy and job creation in South Africa’s coalition government
The government is tasked with accelerating economic growth
At a media briefing at ANC headquarters in Johannesburg, senior ANC official Fikile Mbalula said economic growth and job creation will be the focus of the newly formed government. The Government of National Unity (GNU) is meant to address the country’s economic challenges and high unemployment.
Following the 29 May elections, in which no party won a majority of votes, 11 political parties joined together to form the GNU. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa presented the members of the new national executive cabinet and a swearing-in ceremony was held on Wednesday. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Mbalula emphasised that the ANC must lead the engagement with all parties within the GNU and beyond to promote transformation, unity, peace and stability in South Africa. The government is tasked with accelerating economic growth and reducing unemployment as the most important priorities for the future.
