Brazil wins 1st gold medal at Paris Olympics
Beatriz Souza of Brazil captured gold in women’s judo +78kg at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 by a final score of 1-0, defeating Israel’s Raz Hershko, who took silver.
In a closely contested and tactical final, Souza from Sao Paulo state scored a waza-ari early in the match by throwing Hershko to the ground with an “Osoto-guruma” (Large outer wheel) maneuver. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
A waza-ari is the second highest score a fighter can achieve in judo.
So far, Brazil has won one gold, three silvers and three bronzes in this edition of the Olympic Games.
