Brazilian government announces 30 per cent increase in funding for agro-corridors
US$946 million is to be invested this year in infrastructure projects for exports
Brazil’s federal government has announced an increase in the total amount of public funds invested in infrastructure for so-called agro-corridors – roads and railways used to export Brazil’s main agribusiness products.
The authorities plan to invest 4.7 billion reais (US$946 million). In 2023, R$3.6 billion (US$725 million) was allocated for infrastructure development for exports, according to the Ministry of Transport.
An expenditure ceiling created in 2016 limited the growth of public spending to fluctuations in inflation. This mechanism was replaced last year by a new fiscal system. It allows spending to increase while government revenues grow.
The announced investment package includes 60 structural projects. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
