Brazil’s government plans an event to announce the country’s G20 presidency

The rotating presidency of the grouping of the world’s largest economies has become another moment of international validation for the country

The government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is preparing for a major event that will mark the start of Brazil’s rotating presidency of the G20, a grouping of developed and developing countries. According to the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper, the ceremony is due to take place in November in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The state capital will be the centre of meetings under Brazil’s presidency of the G20, as the country will take over coordination of the bloc from December. Rio de Janeiro will be the venue for the meeting of state leaders and heads of government at the end of 2024, as reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

The one-year rotating presidency of the G20 is seen by Lula as a unique opportunity to raise Brazil’s international profile during his time in power. The post gives the country the opportunity to influence global policy debates, address transnational issues and promote its position on critical international issues.
