Chinese Foreign Minister to visit African countries and Brazil

Wang Yi will visit Egypt, Tunisia, Togo and Ivory Coast

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Egypt, Tunisia, Togo and Ivory Coast from 13 to 18 January, followed by a visit to Latin America from 18 to 22 January. This was announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning.

The main purpose of the minister’s trip is to sum up the results of the dialogue between the leaders of China and Africa, as well as preparations for the upcoming Forum of China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). This is reported by
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

Mao Ning also highlighted the importance of cooperation between Beijing and Latin America and the Caribbean and the fruitful results of multi-sectoral exchanges.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil,” Mao Ning added.

The spokeswoman said the foreign minister’s agenda is a favourable opportunity “to further strengthen the foundation of political trust and enhance the level of mutually beneficial cooperation”.

According to official data, China has become Africa’s largest trading partner over the past decade, with bilateral trade growing 14.8 per cent year-on-year in 2022.

Beijing has also been Brazil’s largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years.
