The Egyptian Desert Research Centre has held discussions with representatives from the private sector on ways to improve agricultural efficiency and make more rational use of water. This was reported by Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.
Participants at the meeting reviewed scientific developments that will help improve soil quality and calculate plants’ water requirements more accurately. They also discussed modern technologies and the use of renewable energy sources in agriculture.
Following the meeting, the Centre will draw up water consumption standards for various crops in central Egypt. Experts will draw up a map showing the cultivation of different olive varieties and identify the areas in the Sinai Peninsula most suitable for this crop.
Furthermore, the Egyptian authorities will continue to calculate the water requirements of each crop, taking into account the specific characteristics of particular regions. This will help to plan agricultural production more accurately and use water resources more efficiently.
