Egyptian President notes strategic nature of relations between Moscow and Cairo
He said this during talks with the Russian leader
Russian President Vladimir Putin received his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in the St. Catherine Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace on 9 May. The Egyptian leader congratulated the Russian people on the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, as reported by the official
website of the Russian President.
The Russian leader thanked Al-Sisi in Arabic for the congratulations. At the meeting, Putin drew attention to the record volume of trade between the countries.
“Egypt is one of Russia’s key partners in Africa. At the end of last year, bilateral trade turnover increased by more than 30 per cent, reaching a record US$9 billion, and in the first two months of this year it grew by another 80+ per cent”

He also emphasised that Russian-Egyptian cooperation is successfully developing and is multidimensional in nature. In particular, the parties are implementing major joint projects and coordinating approaches on topical international issues.
The Egyptian President thanked Putin for his hospitality. He noted that his visit to Russia confirms the existence of strategic partnership relations between Cairo and Moscow.
“We are strengthening our interaction, our political consultations. I very much hope that the meeting of the intergovernmental commission between our countries will be successfully held on 12-14 May this year”

The Egyptian leader flew to Moscow on 8 May to take part in events marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory. On Friday, he attended the Red Square Parade along with his counterparts from other countries.
